Bindoon

Monday, June 19th, 2006

Well, the time to get a job came and went. And so, I left Perth to head to Bindoon. Bindoon is a small town, of maybe 1000 people. I am labouring in a new subdivision installing culverts. The work involves rocks, more rocks, cement, more rocks, digging and more rocks. The exercise has been great and my boss has been treating us well.

The boss also has a pilots license and has taking myself and another coworker on flights in his two seater plane. Unfortunately, you will have to wait until I get back to Perth for me to upload photos.

More news and photos coming.

More to Perth than bars and beaches

Thursday, June 8th, 2006

While yesterday’s post may make it seem like all I do in Perth is go to beaches and bars, I am able to redeem myself.

I have been to several educational tourist traps along with some less educational ones. There was the Museum of Western Australia, the Art Gallery (yes I went to the art gallery), and The Perth Mint. I’ve also made trips to Fremantle for fish and chips, Subiaco for the market and coffee, and walks through the city and along the Swan river.

But it does not end here. There have been walks and sunsets in Kings Park, trips to Hyde Park, and walks to random places after I get lost. And then there is the most important find of all, a restaurant of course. It is all you can eat, vegetarian curry buffet… and the kicker is, you pay what you want. So, if you feel like the meal was worth $5, then you give the man at the door a fiver, if you feel it was worth $10, you give the man a ten. Now what can be better than that?

Whoa, Black Betty

Despite the passing of quite a bit of time, I am still in Perth. The city really is easy to love, it feels like a large town, the beaches are beautiful, and the hostel that I’m staying at is great. Just check out the views from the hostel patio.

Oh, and who can forget the bars. Brad will agree with me on this one, Perth is a great place to party. There’s The Shed, The Mustang Bar, Rosie O’Gradys, Black Bettys, and more. The bars have great live music, free bar tabs for backpackers, and an amazing atmosphere. And on top of all that, how can you not love a town where one bar has murals of Disco Stu and the Chili Peppers.
