Fridays are for surfing the net at work

Friday, April 28th, 2006

While it may be true that there is never a bad day to surf the net at your bosses’ expense, Fridays are the best day for the activity.

In order to get you in the time wasting mood, you can take a look at me drinking a Lavazza coffee at work (you should drink Lavazza too).

Or maybe, a photo of me sleeping in the warehouse is better.

I’m not always lazy though. On Thursday I went to Healesville Sanctuary, which had some excellent animals. I recommend you check out my photo gallery as I have posted several photos from the joint. For those of you that are really lazy and don’t want to browse over to the gallery, here are a few photos from sanctuary and a video.

I forgot what type of bird this is.

Still in Melbourne

Tuesday, April 25th, 2006

I am still having fun in Melbourne, though I will leave eventually.

In my latest adventures through the city I have seen more comedy festival shows, gone to see a game of Footy, and wandered the city streets.

In my wandering I found one interesting statue. I think it is supposed to be a dog, though it is so hideous I don’t think anyone could ever love it.

What the hell is this a statue of?

Though the dog bothered me, I did see an impressive street show that caught my attention. The show involuded acrobatics, 2 Englishman, raw strength, and great underwear (what more could one ask for).

Anything to make a living.

Don’t worry, the suits didn’t last long.

It's ok to walk around in public in your underwear if there is a big union jack on it.

Finally, with a little help from Julian and Gmail, I was able to get another song on my iPod. Listening to it brings a tear to my eye.

Mom, don’t watch this video!

Well, thanks to some software and good old YouTube I can finally share my skydiving video. Turn up the sound and enjoy, unless you’re my mother in which case it will be better for your nerves to skip the video.

A legend on the beach

Friday, April 21st, 2006

In the last few days I have been keeping busy with work and tourist activities.

On Tuesday night, I went to see a show, Best of the Edinburgh Fest, that is part of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival (1 of the 3 big international comedy festivals). The show had 3 great comedy acts, including The Doo Wops, who played some some of their great songs, including Asshole Haircut . Unfortunately, I have no photos to share as I did not take my camera.

Thursday was also amazing. I woke up at 6:30 am to drive two hours to Bells Beach in order to watch the final three rounds of surfing at the Rip Curl Pro. When I got to Bells I was not dissappointed. The weather was cool, but the surf was big and the waves were perfect.

After watching the event from the beach for 5 hours I was able to see Kelly Slater beat Joel Parkinson in the final.

As is tradition at Bells Beach, Kelly got to ring the bell.

NOTE: I would like to point out that the locals at the surfing seemed to know that it would be cold. They were wearing toques, thick sweat shirts and jackets. I wore sandals, pants, and a long sleeve-T. Despite my lack of clothing the locals still looked like the cold was getting to them more than it was getting to me.
