And the winner is…

Thursday, March 30th, 2006

And the final name is… Red Roody. This is based on Brad’s entries, but as we know, he was a bit late in submitting. As a result of his tardiness he will get a six pack with three beers missing.

Because most entries were on time, I have decided to select a winner from that group too. The second place prize goes to… Duane with the entry of Taz.

For those of you that didn’t win, don’t worry, I’m pretty sure you’ll still get gifts despite not winning.

1 Wedding and several dinners

Monday, March 27th, 2006

In order to really enjoy the wedding that was coming up, I really needed to stretch my stomach. Luckily my family that is also visiting for the wedding has taken me out for several dinners and even free lunch. The result of the eating was a nicely stretched stomach.

With the preparation complete, it was time to enjoy the wedding festivities. I cleaned myself up, put on my rental suit, and made my way to the Synagogue. I witnessed the bride and groom tie the knot under the chuppa and then made my way over to the party.

The Bride under the Chuppa

The party started with the traditional horrah. (A quick explanantion for non Jews. The horrah is our response to the mosh pit. You run or dance around in circles, spin each other around wildly, lift people up on chairs, and work up a sweat).

The horrah (the Jewish moshpit)

The party then had dancing, delicious food, dessert (see my plate below), and my family.

It had been a while since I ate a good dessert. I finished it all.

In summary, a great time was had by all.

P.s. Stay tuned as I will announce the contest winner in the next few days.

Prize to be won

Friday, March 24th, 2006

That’s right, this site is offering a prize. If you want to know what the prize is or any other details, keep reading!

I have purchased a station wagon in order to tour Australia. She/he is a beautiful 1990 Holden (Division of GM) Commadore.

Time to name her

She/he now needs a name and I think that a contest is a great way to get some help.

To enter the contest, simply create a comment for this post with the name or names that you would like to enter. You can enter up to five names. The names can be entered all at once or in several comment posts, I don’t really care.

The fine print:
As the sole sponsor of this contest is me, the prize will be limited in size. Also, I am not selecting a single item to be won. Instead, when someone wins, I will buy them something to suit their personality. It could be a t-shirt, a 6 pack of Australian beer, a stuffed animal, or whatever else I decide.

The prize will not be the candy below.

Did product management really approve this candy?

Have fun coming up with names and remember where I am when coming up with names. If I can find a cool little mascot for the name you come up with, that may make me choose your enrty.

All entries should be in by Wednesday, March 28 at 12:00 am GMT as I will select a name some time after that.

This contest is open to everyone, including, but not limited to: family, friends, coworkers, and enemies. If you live in Canada and you win I may deliver the prize when I get home, though if you live somewhere else, like SA, I will simply mail it to you.

Good luck.

The end of Tassie

Tuesday, March 21st, 2006

Since I lasted posted something to this site, I completed my loop around Tassie and hiked quite a bit.

During the loop, a few interesting things happened. I stayed in a hostel with 50 school children and ate a fair bit of their food, thinking that it was free hostel food. I met a group of retired women who saw me making noodles and then invited me for dinner as they thought I needed some good food. And finally, I got rained on for 4 days straight.

As I’m not in much of a writing mood, I will now leave you with some photos and a video.

When I saw this sign, I had to get a picture of it for Deena. So, I turned the car around on the highway, maybe not the smartest thing I ever did, and took a few photos.
